Sometimes it’s not the big leaps that reveal the most.
But the moments when you stop.
Today, I went coasteering in Villajoyosa.
Along the coastline, where the rocks meet the sea.
Wearing a wetsuit, helmet, hiking shoes, and gloves, I set off.
I had absolutely no idea what to expect.
You only truly understand it when you’re standing there.
With coasteering, you move between land and water.
Your feet in the sea.
Your hands on the rocks.
Climbing. Searching for grip. Jumping into the water when climbing isn’t possible, and then getting back out further along the coast.
I never expected this experience to affect me so deeply.
Even now, it still leaves me quiet.
It was breathtakingly beautiful.
The sea beneath your feet.
The rocks beneath your hands.
The sun on your face.
It makes everything feel softer.
And yet… I also felt tension.
And fear.
Because there were jumps.
1 metre. 2. 3. 4.
And higher.
6. 7. 8.
I was the only woman in a group of English men.
They laughed, jumped, and went for it.
And I stood there… and felt.
The choice to jump was mine.
Four years ago, I probably would have pushed myself.
Maybe I would have jumped because I felt I had to.
Because I thought that was what strength looked like.
Not today.
I stopped at four metres.
Not because I couldn’t do it.
But because something inside me said:
This is enough.
The old Ine would have kept going.
Driven by willpower.
Pushing through fear.
Proving that she could do it.
Not wanting to fall short.
But today felt different.
Softer.
When I was in the water and wanted to climb back onto the rocks, the waves were crashing against the shore.
That moment has stayed with me. And it still resonates.
Martin, the guide, was lying beside me and said:
“When you want to climb back onto the rocks, you don’t fight against the sea. Sometimes several waves come one after another. The sea has its own rhythm. Wait until it becomes calmer. Feel that rhythm. Let yourself be carried.”
Let yourself be carried.
Those words stayed with me. I still feel them.
Because that’s exactly it, isn’t it?
How often do we try to force things…
to push…
to climb while the waves are still crashing?
Today, I didn’t choose willpower.
I chose listening.
I chose gentleness.
Even when jumping from four metres, the adrenaline rushed through my body.
My heart skipped a beat at times.
My mind doubted and went in every possible direction.
My body felt everything and was completely tense.
And yet, I jumped.
Not further. Not higher.
But more honestly.
And I am proud of that.
There were also moments
when I missed you.
I thought: if you had been standing here beside me…
maybe I would have jumped further.
Maybe I would have gone higher.
But maybe that is exactly the point.
That I am now learning to jump… without someone beside me.
In my own way.
At my own pace.
Today wasn’t a day about pushing my limits.
It was about respecting them.
And somehow, that feels like a much bigger leap.
Maybe that is what I want to take with me into the Árbol Retreat.
Not how far you jump.
But that you dare to feel what is right.
That you learn to wait for the right moment.
That you stop fighting against the waves.
And instead, allow yourself to be carried by the sea.
